Yu-Mei has taught fiction writing to adults, undergraduates and high school students in Singapore and the U.S. for more than a decade. She has taught college courses in advanced fiction writing at Boston University and introduction to creative writing at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.

She currently runs As Clean As A Bone, an independent free six-month mentorship program for two emerging fiction writers from Singapore.
