Yu-Mei has taught fiction writing to adults, undergraduates and high school students in Singapore and the U.S. for more than a decade. She has taught college courses in advanced fiction writing at Boston University and introduction to creative writing at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.

In addition to teaching, Yu-Mei has mentored emerging creative non-fiction writers in Singapore’s National Arts Council’s Mentor Access Program and teenage fiction writers in the Ministry of Education’s Creative Arts Program. She also runs As Clean As A Bone, an independent free six-month mentorship program for two emerging fiction writers from Singapore.
